Auto Donations
There's a good chance that you've never even considered auto donations before; many people don't know that these opportunities even exist. And yet thousands if not millions of Americans have a perfectly good car sitting in their driveway or garage. Maybe one of your kids went to college and after school invested in their own car. Maybe you never found time to finish that project car. Or maybe you've gotten years of good use out of your faithful old ride but are ready to move on to something newer and nicer.
If you've got a car you don't need, you've probably already considered your options. Many people believe their options are limited to: selling the car, trading the car in, or keeping the car. Auto donations give you another, better option. In many cases selling a car privately is more hassle than it's worth. You might have to invest even more money in the car just to make it salable. Then you've got to take pictures and pay to advertise the car. You'll have to devote hours of your valuable time to answering questions and showing the car, and we all know about the bothersome late night phone calls that result from posting ads...
If on the other hand you opt to trade in your car, you know you'll never get its true value from a dealer. Plus many dealers will not combine discounts so that you could actually get a worse deal on your selected car by doing a trade in instead of taking a rebate.
Your third option?keeping the car?is hardly an option at all. Many people allow their cars to sit and rust simply because they don't want to bother with the stress of trying to get rid of them. You've still got the car, it's still taking up space, and it's only losing value the longer you keep it.
Auto donations provide a fantastic solution to the unwanted car problem. Not only can you finally get rid of your car and get a tax deduction in the process, but you'll be doing something genuinely good for a dedicated charity and ultimately for less fortunate people or families in your community. What can charities do with auto donations?
In many cases a charity will take on the trouble of reselling the car and will use the funds raised through its sale toward operational costs. Those funds may also support necessary services like food pantries, clothing donations, skills programs, etc.
In some cases, auto donations go directly to people or families in need. When these people fall on hard times, the lack of a car can make it almost impossible to rise above their circumstances. How can they get to work? How can they get to the store? What will they do in an emergency? Your unwanted car could be their saving grace providing new access to the world around them and all its opportunities.
Finally, some charities accept auto donations for their own use. Remember that most of these charities run almost exclusively on donated time and donated funds. For many volunteers it's simply not feasible to use their own vehicles, or in some cases they do not have a vehicle (like a truck or van) that is suitable for the charity's needs.
The many benefits of auto donations have made them a popular choice for thousands of sympathetic citizens.
